The ancient and historical name of present day Syria is Sham. The descriptions of Syria in various hadiths show that the borders of Syria were somewhat wider than today’s Syria. Syria at that time consisted of Syria, Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon. However, Syria is now called Syria because it is the main and largest part of ancient Syria. One of the characteristics of Syria is that most of the prophets and messengers of the world have come to this region and people will gather here on the Day of Resurrection. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also made many important predictions about Syria in the light of revelation from Allaah. Some of them are mentioned below.

(1) Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he said, I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say, ‘A group of my ummah will always be steadfast in the religion of Allah. Those who want to insult or oppose them will not be able to harm them. They will remain in this state till the Day of Resurrection. ‘ Umayr ibn Hani (may Allah be pleased with him) quoted Malik ibn Yukhamir as saying that Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the party would stay in Syria. Muawiyah said that Malik had the idea that the group would stay in Syria. (Bukhari: 3641). In Tabarani’s narration, the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself said that they would be Syrians.

(2) Narrated from Ibn Umar, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ‘O Allah! Bless us in Syria and Yemen. People said, “Come near us.” He said again, O God! Bless our country in Syria and Yemen. People said again, come near us. Then he said, “There are earthquakes and riots.” And the horn of Satan will come out from there (his rise will take place) ‘. (Bukhari: 1038).

(3) Narrated from Abdullah Ibn Hawala (ra), the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘O Ibn Hawala যখন when you see that the caliphate has descended to the Holy Land ) Then you will think that the time before the Day of Resurrection is approaching the time of earthquakes and historical disasters and great events. The closer my two hands are to your head, the closer the Hour will be. ‘ (Musnad Ahmad: 2246, Abu Dawood: 2535).

(4) It is narrated from Mu’awiyah Ibn Kurra (R.) in his father’s source, he said, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, ‘When the people of Syria get worse, there will be no more good among you (Muslims). But a party in my ummah will always be victorious. Those who seek to humiliate them will not be able to harm them until the Day of Resurrection. (Tirmidhi: 2192).

(5) Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he said that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said that when great battles take place, Allah Ta’ala will send an army from Damascus consisting of Mawalis. They will be the most skilled cavalry in the whole of Arabia and equipped with the best armaments. Allah Ta’ala will help the religion of Islam through them. (Sunan Ibn Majah: 4090). ‘Mawali’ is a word with multiple meanings. According to many, Mawli here refers to non-Muslims of Muslim descent who converted to Islam at the hands of the ancient Muslims.

(6) Narrated from Nawwas Ibn Sam’an, he said, “Once the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) discussed (the details) about the Dajjal. (At one point) he said, then Isa ibn Maryam will descend on the bright minaret east of the city of Damascus. He will continue to look for the Dajjal. Eventually you will go to a place called Babe Lud and catch him and kill him. ‘ (Muslim: 6263).

(6) Narrated Salim Ibn Abdullah (RA) from his father, he (Abdullah) said, Rasulullah (SAW) said, ‘Before the Day of Resurrection there will be an eruption from Hazramaut or from the side of the sea of Hajramaut and it will gather the people. The Companions asked, O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Then what do you instruct us to do? He said, “You will stay in Syria.” (Jame At-Tirmizi: 2217). The eruption mentioned here refers to the last sign of the Hour. After which people will be forced to take refuge in Syria.

(6) Bahaz ibn Hakim narrates from his father to his father from his grandfather, he said, I told the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), where will you tell me the position? He says, here. He was then pointing to Syria with his hand. He added, “Surely you will be resurrected in Syria.” (Musnad Ahmad: 2005).
